What’s next for PShizzy.com?

You tell me. This blog’s direction should be led by the people who visit the site. Actions are great, but there’s more to the site than that. I will dive into other stuff shortly, but rather than post something of my choice, I leave it to you to tell me what you’d like to see.

Leave a comment, and if you see someone’s comment and agree, then say so. If I see 10 comments on the same subject, I’ll know that’s a great idea. But just in case you’re not sure what to consider, I’ve created a list of ideas I already have in mind.

So here’s what I’ve got in mind for the future

  • Obviously, I plan to do more on Actions
  • Noise Ninja, something I promised to write about on FM, will be a post/video here
  • Green Screens. They tend to be tough, what with spill, and getting a good key to pull the green off an image.
  • Lightroom. Not everyone uses Photoshop, so something on Lightroom might make sense.
  • For that matter, what programs would you like to see in use? There’s so many out there.
  • Anyone remember the video of me packing a Minitrekker into the photo equivalant of a turducken? Ya, well I’ve got a Computrekker, and an Airport Security too. So, uh, who wants to see me pack that?
  • I’m considering an article on data storage/backup. From how to make backups in realtime, to maintaining proper offsite storage, etc.
  • Aside from lenses and cameras, what else do I take with me to shoots?
  • Someone mentioned this. Honestly, I’m not sure it would be that interesting, but if enough people are interested, I would do it: Day in the life, like a video of me and what I normally do on a shoot day.
  • Someone also mentioned this: What the different modes on a camera are, from manual to aperture to shutter priority. Oh and I am a Canon and Nikon friendly person, so it would be geared to both those cameras. Kinda like how I have a PC laptop, but own a Mac Pro. The duality of man, the Jungian thing. (btw, that’s a Full Metal Jacket reference).
  • Anyone notice I put a student tag on some articles? Well not every student can afford photoshop, so I’m considering articles on alternative apps for students on a budget. You’d be surprised what you could pull off without Photoshop.

That’s stuff of the top of my head. But there’s so much more I’m sure I haven’t even touched on. So you tell me, what would you like to see on PShizzy.com?

  1. I was thinking if you can talk about. a basic work flow in Camera Raw, Light room VS. Bridge, Photo mechanics. I think accurate exposure and white balance is still a mystery to many photographers, why photographers should still use a light meter and a exposure calibration device. I have also being asked about depth of field, I learned this in photography school but I think this subject is not covered anymore by many websites and I think some schools. Well I think this would be some thing to talk about maybe. thank you and take care….AP PHOTO

  2. Online resources! Your list of “must reads” including forums, blogs, tutorials, etc.

You show me yours, I’ll show you mine.

  3. When shooting sports, what do you use to carry around all your gear? I know the ThinkTank belt systems are pretty popular, do you use those?

  4. +1 on Matt’s idea for sports gear transportation.
Also perhaps a “sports corner” of sorts where you can post The PShizzy ideas specifically about gear, techniques for sports.

  5. Abe, thanks for the suggestions!

John, ya know what, I didn’t think about it, but a resources page sounds like a solid idea. Truth is though that I tend to just mess around with stuff and learn from others more than from websites. It’s one of the reasons I started this site. Forums have info all over the place, and sometimes people are judged for their questions. My site is for anyone who wants to know more, no judgement.

Matt and Zander, I can definitely go into what I pack on game days, and offer some ideas on gear, though I don’t want to get too specific, especially with a matter as subjective as “what’s the right lens for (fill in the blank) event”. The same goes with techniques, which might be part of a M mode vs AV vs TV (and the Nikon equivalant of course)

Thanks everyone for the great ideas!

  6. My two pesos- I’d like to see something on Noise Ninja. I use NN Basic as included in Bibble, but wonder if I’m shorting myself not owning the full version?
I’d also like to know more about sharpening. Seems like everybody does it their own way… I sharpen when converting a batch in Bibble from Raw to JPG, then run a batch process script in Paint Shop Pro using USM then sharpen. Am I stoopid? How do you do it?

  7. Oh yeah, and I like the green screen idea too. I have on gathering dust because I can’t find and efficient way to get rid of that pesky halo!

  8. Dean,

Those are definitely on the to do list as I mentioned them on FM a few weeks back. Thanks for speaking up, I appreciate the feedback.

  9. I would like to see info on work flow including back up. I currently use Lightroom and CS3 on a Macbook Pro. I am having issues organizing my images from my internal and external hard drives. I don’t currently use the back up function on Lightroom because I don’t know how to back stuff up across both hard drives.

I am sure I will come up with more!
